World-renowned prehistoric monument located on the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, Stonehenge, dates back to around 3000 BCE. Stonehenge is a complex of massive standing stones arranged in a circular pattern. The enormous standing stones of Stonehenge are a true marvel: there, you can observe the larger sarsens and the smaller bluestones. The purpose and construction methods of Stonehenge have long intrigued passionate scholars and archaeologists, sparking various theories about the mysterious site.
Some believe it served as an astronomical observatory due to its alignment with the solstices, while others propose religious or ceremonial significance. The mystery surrounding the transportation and erection of these massive stones still captivates researchers.
What are they for? Who put them here? What do they have to do with the cycle of the seasons and the sun's setting? The multilingual audio tour will explore all these questions.
Also, you can access the visitor's centre and wonder at over 250 ancient objects - from pottery and tools to jewellery, each of which is thousands of years old. With two hours to explore the site and the visitor's centre, you can take in the sights at your own pace and enjoy the beautiful Salisbury countryside.
