The leaves are finally starting to fall here in the UK. Walking under the trees in Kensington Gardens becomes hazardous as acorns and horse chestnuts drop from their branches. The days are getting shorter, and the hedgerows are turning a golden brown.
As ever, though, the city keeps on turning. When the colder weather sets in, the London population looks to cozy pubs, fantastic food, and heartwarming parties to keep the candle burning. Autumn is the perfect time of year to taste test some of the UK’s best beers and spirits. Let’s see what’s on the calendar this month.
Oktoberfest
Whilst this global party doesn’t take over the city the way it does in Munich, London certainly knows how to strap on the lederhosen when it’s time to party Bavarian style. Oktoberfest is still one of the biggest parties in the city, with parties going on throughout the weekend. If you’re looking for a great venue, we recommend London’s own festival site in Millwall Park. You can also check out Fulham’s fantastic Oktoberfest bar (if you can get in!). Take a crack at their massive range of 60+ beers.
London Cocktail Week
I love cocktails. And if you’re anything like me, London’s festival of mixology is something not to be missed. Bars from Shoreditch to Soho will be joining in the celebrations with their own special, drink-themed events. Dance the night away with a martini in hand at the Grey Goose Disco, or try some crazy cocktail chemistry at the Schweppes Alchemy Bar. Explore the full range of awesome events over at Drink Up London.
London Film and Literature Festivals

September was definitely the month for culture vultures, but that doesn’t mean you will miss out in October. The London Literature Festival will celebrate the city’s long literary heritage with speakers such as Hilary Clinton, Tom Hanks, and Philip Pullman attending this Southbank Center event. You’ll also be able to explore 243 of the world’s highest quality films at the London Film Festival at great venues such as the wonderfully unique Prince Charles cinema. Go get inspired!
Comfort Food Supper Club
This is exactly what we all need when Autumn rolls around. Brought to you by The Cheese Bar, Voodoo Rays, Flour Station, Pamban and Bull & Ranch, this collaborative three-course-dinner event isn’t one to be missed. With cheese croquettes, wild boar or crocodile cheek pizza, and a dessert to die for, it’s the ultimate comfort food experience. Tickets are only £25 too, but they’re set to go fast.
London Restaurant Festival
Just in case you weren’t completely festivalled out, we’re sneaking this one in too. The London Restaurant Festival offers you the chance to take up a variety of gourmet adventures around the city. With offers and experiences ranging from £10 to £60 and over 350 menus to choose from you’re bound to find the perfect dining experience for you. Take a look at the site to learn more about their festival menus.
Even with the autumn weather well underway, there’s enough here to keep you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. If you want a true British autumnal experience then I highly recommend our historic pub tours. There’s nothing like a cozy pub in October.
