The capital truly bursts into life over the holiday season. There’s never a better time to visit London than right about now, whilst the bustle of the summer streets brings out the best in the capital’s warm and welcoming residents
From inner-city outdoor music festivals and month-long parades to world-renowned sports tournaments, London has it all in July. Truth be told, you can’t possibly see everything that London has to offer in a single month (or a lifetime, for that matter!), but you can make the most of your trip by checking out to these fantastic events.
Let’s take a look at what’s on in London during July.
Barclaycard presents British Summer Time
Every July, Hyde Park becomes the stage for some of the biggest names in the music and entertainment industry. This year’s headliners include some of Britain’s best-known acts, such as Robbie Williams and Florence + the Machine. That doesn’t mean we’re not inviting some of our friends from across the pond, though! Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand and Stevie Wonder will all make appearances at this year’s festival, which takes place from July 5 to 15.
Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships 2019
Tennis is one of Britain’s prized sporting inventions, which is why professional players from all over the world fight to take the title at Wimbledon. Wimbledon is one of four annual Grand Slam tennis events, but it’s certainly the most famous. Advance tickets have almost definitely sold out by now, but you can buy premium tickets ‘on the door’ if you’re prepared to queue.
BBC Proms
Starting from July 19 and continuing until September 14, BBC Proms will take over the Royal Albert Hall to deliver the biggest classical music event on Earth. Despite what you might think, BBC Proms is informal and affordable. If you’d rather listen to orchestras in the comfort of a theatre than thumping DJs in a field, we highly recommend attending a concert at the Royal Albert Hall during July.
London National Park City Festival
London is steeped in history but never short of new things to do. This July, the London National Park City Festival will take place for the first time ever from July 20 to 28. This unique event celebrates the outdoor wonders of this magnificent city. From wildlife photography to pedal-powered film screenings, the Festival has something that will tickle your fancy. Best of all, events are completely free of charge.
Buckingham Palace State Rooms Tour
Ask anybody what they want to see whilst visiting London, and Buckingham Palace – our Head of State’s official residence – comes high on their bucket list. Believe it or not, you can take a tour of this beautiful and iconic mansion during summer, when the Queen opens her doors to the public. If you want to get a glimpse into life as a royal, visit London in July.
Pride in London Parade
As the UK’s largest and most cosmopolitan city, it comes as no surprise that tolerance and acceptance are widely celebrated here in London. The city’s Pride festival may have started in June, but the festivities will continue until July 6, when free performances in Trafalgar Square will bring the event to a close.
