As a city, London offers some of the most exceptional culinary experiences anywhere in the world. However, the best experiences are often found off the well-beaten path in local areas. This fantastic tour will lift the lid on London's thriving artisanal food and dining sector as you journey into super-trendy Hoxton to explore dining at a truly local level.
Experience pop-up dining with a difference at Eleven98, the brainchild of local chef Aidan Brooks, who welcomes you into his home for a unique two-course culinary experience. Having previously worked in Barcelona and Valencia, Aidan returned home to London several years ago and was part of the team at East London's first-ever Michelin-starred restaurant.
Eleven98 was set up as one man's tribute to his local area - Hackney - to celebrate the area's growth and progression over the years. Uniquely to Eleven98, all the ingredients are sourced locally, using local allotments for vegetables, independent butchers and fishmongers, artisanal bakeries and even honey cultivated by family friends.
St Mary’s Secret Garden
At St Mary’s Secret Garden, you’ll visit a community garden with a difference based in Hackney. The gardens provide a vital lifeline to the local community by helping combat isolation, loneliness and develop invaluable employment and social skills. A local institution, for 25 years it has provided a safe space for those with support needs where members of the local community can gain a sense of inclusion and get hands-on gardening experience. Produce grown on-site by its community of gardeners is available for the public to purchase.
Visit the site of a proudly independent, award-winning gin distillery based in Haggerston. Delight in a gin tasting session that explores the unique botanical blends produced by 58Gin and listen to the story of how Mark 'Moonshine' Marmont was inspired to set up his gin-making business from a kitchen table using traditional alembic copper stills from Portugal.
Better Health Bakery
