Located on the west front of Buckingham Palace, The King\u2019s Gallery has been open to the public for some 55 years. Its origins are perhaps surprising: the exhibition space occupies what was formerly Queen Victoria\u2019s private chapel, which suffered damage from wartime bombing in 1940 and was subsequently refurbished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The King\u2019s Gallery (or formerly The Queen’s Gallery) made its public debut in 1962, following the recommendation of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and quickly attracted flocks of visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following a subsequent renovation timed to celebrate the Queen\u2019s Golden Jubilee \u2014 the most significant expansion project to take place at Buckingham Palace in over 150 years \u2014, it reopened to the public in 2002, with three-and-a-half times the exhibition space it had previously, as well as a number of new architectural flourishes, from a Neoclassical entrance space to two friezes that symbolised Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
