The United Kingdom once held the world\u2019s largest empire. Whether that\u2019s a good or a bad thing, it does suggest that the Brits have exercised a lot of military might throughout their history, in all corners of the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the UK has certainly lost its fair share of wars and battles<\/a>. After all, not all of its ex-colonies were granted peaceful independence. And, Great Britain has massively overestimated itself on more than one occasion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, which wars and conflicts have the UK lost? Here are some of the most famous ones (as well as a few lesser-known ones that deserve a mention). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Battle of Hastings, 1066 <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s go all the way back to the last time the British Isles were invaded. This battle was fought between Harold, the ruling English monarch, and William, the Norman who claimed the British throne. As you may know, William won decisively, changing the course of British history forever. However, it has to be said that the English nation-state didn\u2019t exist at the time, and the United Kingdom wouldn\u2019t exist for centuries. Nevertheless, this lost conflict had a huge impact on the future of England.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
