Thankfully, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ardmore.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ardmore Studios in Wicklow<\/a>, which is Ireland\u2019s only four-wall studio, solved this issue entirely.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The combination of a large-scale set of intricately detailed Tudor buildings and easy access to a beautiful array of scenic film locations proved a clear winner, allowing the crew to achieve a fantastic Tudor aesthetic. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1153\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/images.pexels.com\/photos\/68389\/pexels-photo-68389.jpeg?auto=compress&amp;cs=tinysrgb&amp;dpr=2&amp;h=750&amp;w=1260\"><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Killruddery House, Wicklow<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This magnificent mansion and the 800-acre estate have been home to the Brabazon Family, otherwise known as the Earls of Meath, since 1618. It\u2019s been used as a filming location for multiple films and TV shows, including Far and Away, Angela\u2019s Ashes, Camelot, and, of course, The Tudors. Its uniqueness comes from its extensive early formal gardens, still in the original style, which were largely laid out in the 17th century.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And <a href=\"https:\/\/www.killruddery.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Killruddery<\/a> isn\u2019t just a great film location. Within easy reach of Dublin, it\u2019s a real hidden tourist gem. Visitors can take leisurely walks through the renowned gardens, enjoy the traditional tea room, and experience an informative guided tour of this fantastic historic house and all its secrets. It\u2019s open from 9:00 to 18:00 from May to September.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dublin Castle, Dublin<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dublincastle.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dublin Castle<\/a> is the real heart of historic Ireland and is currently a major governmental complex. Thanks to its impressive and well-preserved medieval architecture, central courtyard, and grand rooms, it was chosen to represent Vatican City in the series.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Built between 1208 and 1220, it features 13th-century record towers and state apartments which were once the residence of English viceroys. The beautiful fortress has taken centre stage in Irish politics for over 800 years, dating back to the Norman invasion.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visitors come from around the world to visit Dublin and its historic castle. The castle is open to visitors from Monday to Saturday, 9:45 to 17:45. There\u2019s a self-guided tour option for the State Apartments, a free app with an audio guide to help you explore, and a selection of guides around the Viking Excavation and Chapel Royal to learn about the castle\u2019s magical treasures and intriguing political history.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.pexels.com\/photos\/87378\/pexels-photo-87378.jpeg?auto=compress&amp;cs=tinysrgb&amp;dpr=2&amp;h=750&amp;w=1260\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><\/span>Powerscourt Estate, Enniskerry<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This grand estate with stunning views of the surrounding mountainous landscapes was chosen as the location for one of The Tudors\u2019 most heartbreaking scenes &#8211; when Anne Boleyn begs with all her heart for mercy with baby Elizabeth in her arms. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The estate was completed by 1300 and was owned by <em>Le Poer<\/em> (Power) family (hence its name), and is renowned for its magnificent gardens, which are home to an 18-hole championship golf course and the highest waterfall in Ireland, all surrounded by the beauty of the Wicklow mountains.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/powerscourt.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Powerscourt<\/a> has been voted as No.3 of the top gardens in the world by National Geographic and one of the top 10 houses by Lonely Planet &#8211; so don\u2019t miss out on a visit if you\u2019re in the area. It\u2019s the biggest unoccupied jail in Ireland and was a prominent filming location in The Tudors. The dramatic and forbidding cells were an ideal representation of the turbulent Tudor times.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After all, if you weren\u2019t in favour of the king, you\u2019d end up in a dungeon, or worse <\/span>&#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">off with your head! It\u2019s now a museum run by the Irish Government, which is open all year round.
